Apple does not publish its labor costs but Simply Hired, a job search website, calculated that Apple pays its employees an average of $46,000 per year. This figure includes employees both in the Cupertino headquarters and in Apple’s retail stores. Goldman Sachs, on the other hand, pays its 35,700 employees an average salary of $430,700.
I am really unclear on what the point of comparing a tech company to an investment banking firm is. That’s like comparing McDonald’s employees to US Senators. The fact that the Apple number includes retail store employees make is easy to understand why the Apple number is so low.
Still, I don’t know if the original piece was supposed to be a sideways shot at Apple or not. If it wasn’t, I don’t really get it.
