Adam Rittenberg from ESPN regurgitates Phil Steele’s list of the number of starters each Big Ten team is returning next year. Michigan leads with 20, Iowa comes in last with 10.
This stat is somewhat overrated. It means a lot more to smaller programs where experience is a more attainable quality than skill. In other words, team’s like Boise St. can’t recruit 4 and 5-star recruits so they need to put players on the field with experience to counter teams like Alabama who can recruit tons of 4 and 5 star players.
Michigan has a new coach and therefore if they can realistically return 20 starters, they stand a better chance of hitting the ground running. But you will notice that the cream of the Big Ten crop is at the bottom. That’s because the best teams “reload.”
