Mel Martin from TUAW with the skinny on the recently announced DirecTV iPad app. All which sounds extremely appealing and droolworthy, until this:
One catch: DirecTV says you’ll need a certain receiver and remote to use some of the services, and it sounds like the connection will be made on a local Wi-Fi network.
One of my gripes with DirecTV is that if you have their “whole home DVR,” which I do, you can’t just plug your receivers into your network, you need a “special kit” that has to be “professionally” installed and eventually ends up costing about $85 to do. Guess that means it’s a good thing I don’t have an iPad.
