Early Returns on Grantland.com

Kelly McBride from the Poynter Review Project reviews Bill Simmons’ new site Grantland for ESPN.com:

Simmons’ analysis going into Game 6 of the NBA Finals was prescient and compelling, even for non-basketball fans. But his welcome piece blathered on for more than 3,000 words, yet failed to articulate a vision for the site until the lower third. He could have summed up his overwhelming anxiety in a pithy tweet.

As a self-proclaimed Bill Simmons Fan Boy, I couldn’t have been more excited about the launch of Grantland. But a couple of weeks later my feelings are mixed. The rapid-fire frequency of posts (it seems like there are 5-10 per day) coupled with the sheer length of most of them, borders on being a chore to keep up with.

I am hoping that over time I will be able to identify which writers I do/don’t like will help, but thus far I haven’t been blown away.
