First, Guillen isn’t merely playing Pierre; he’s put him in a position to be one of the offense’s most important players, if you pay attention to the number of plate appearances he sees. The second problem is probably a bit more significant: the 32-year-old Pierre has looked absolutely awful this season.

Price goes on to describe all the ways that Pierre seems to have taken a nosedive. Everyone is aware of his new inability to steal bases, but he also isn’t getting on base at the same clip and has been pretty awful in the field. It seems the best conclusion overall is simply that Pierre has lost a step or two, which makes sense as the years drag on.

From everything I have witnessed, I agree with the sentiment that Pierre has been terrible this year, and I don’t understand how he continues to play everyday
