Kindle Fire Not Trying To Be An iPad Killer

This post refers to

John Gruber on the Kindle Fire:

The Kindle Fire is a laptop replacement for almost no one. It’s a peripheral, not a second computer — and it’s priced accordingly. You can get a Kindle Fire and a new top-of-the-line e-ink Kindle Touch for less than the price of an iPad. It’s a very different take.

Amazon is smart. They have proved this time and time again over the last 15 years. Everyone else is trying to create an “iPad killer”, but Amazon seems to be going a different route and attacking a different part of the market. I have heard multiple people talk about getting a Kindle Fire as less of a tablet in the iPad sense and more in the vein of, couch-Googling device and “free” media consumption via Amazon Prime.
