Brian of mgoblog on 2012 Denard Robinson:
Robinson panicked and reverted against the swarming VT defense; before that he’d put together a solid second half as he began to understand the offense and maybe possibly got healthy. With another year in the system he should improve on his throwing numbers.
I don’t care how idiotic people think I am, but I still think Denard will lose the starting job at some point, and will not have the most snaps of Michigan QBs next season. I know the counterarguments usually involve Denard being injured a bunch in 2011 as well as a new offense, but neither of those makes up for some horrible decision making. Denard throws off his back foot a lot, and tends to chuck the ball up instead of taking off running.
After two full seasons as a starter, if he hasn’t fixed this, I don’t see how it happens between now and September. The schedule is tougher and jump ball magnet Junior Hemingway is gone. Devin Gardner didn’t looked good in very limited action, but they did tend to put him in on a few obvious passing downs, which indicates they must have faith in him as a thrower.
Gardner is probably much closer to the prototypical QB for Al Borges system, so I continue to go with my crackpot theory that Denard will lose the job.
