Close to 4 million people watched the Season 2 premiere, making it one of HBO’s highest rated broadcasts in months. The ratings remained strong for Episode 2, delivering 3.8 million viewers, according to EW. With TV viewership typically decreasing after a premiere, “Game of Thrones'” ability to retain nearly all of the Season 2 debut audience is quite the feat.
This show undoubtedly has a huge and devoted following. I am happy with the first two episodes of season 2, and it’s no surprise that it was renewed. HBO’s deal is usually to renew one season at a time, so it’s not like it was going to be more than this.
