How Bill Simmons Gambled Away His NBA MVP Vote

Chris sent me this article by Erik Malinowski:

So that’s the policy: Simmons and gambling are intrinsically linked. It’s “part of Bill’s work.” That’s fine. For that, he will likely never be allowed to vote for another NBA award (although that depends ultimately whether the NBA cares if an air of impropriety hangs over its award winners).

As a self-professed Bill Simmons’ Fan Boy, I totally forgot about his MVP bet. It is interesting that he conveniently never mentioned on the multi-hour podcast he did on the NBA awards. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he forgot, but that seems unlikely.

It’s safe to say that he put himself in a bad position. Of course, any other writer with a vote could have made the same bet and no one would be the wiser. And in this case, LeBron is such an obvious selection it really didn’t matter.
