I disagree. Rentzsch makes some great points and arguments for buying apps directly, but there is a simple reason why most Mac users should buy only from the Mac App Store: peace of mind.
Peace of mind is exactly why I had been buying things just from the App Store. But now, because of sandboxing, apps like Moom are saying, the Mac App Store version will no longer be updated and you should get the direct version. They have found a way to transfer the license somehow, but not every company is going to do this. As a result, “peace of mind” is gone.
