White Sox Ticket Price Changes

Ed Sherman of Chicago Business talks White Sox tickets:

Losing money isn’t part of the model. Mr. [Brooks] Boyer admitted the Sox will be in the red this year, although he wouldn’t get into exact figures. It’s fairly easy to do the math. The Sox had a team-record $127-million payroll, and they will draw around 2 million fans, down from 2.2 million in 2010.

Attendance was down, likely for multiple reasons. Partially due to the fact that the economy hasn’t gotten better and baseball games are expensive. Partially because the White Sox had a bad season and their prize free agent Adam Dunn was a colossal bust. I don’t expect things to be any better next year since the Sox probably won’t win more games. The White Sox have the 4th highest ticket prices in baseball, but are rarely in the top 10 performance-wise. Something has to give.

Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Maps

A very timely post considering this week’s podcast, ACSlater.com has diagrams of all the Modern Warfare 3 maps. It’s hard to make much of these just from this view. It does look like there might be a couple of smaller ones, which tend to be my favorites.

DirecTV Adds Limited Live Streaming To iPad

Mel Martin of TUAW on DirecTV’s iPad app, which now supports streaming:

You have to be on the same network as your DirecTV receiver, and not all channels are available. I’m not seeing the pay movie channels, or the local channels, which are all a matter of rights with the owners of those channels.

Streaming sounds great, but if it’s limited to the same network and only some channels, I don’t really get it. If I am in my house why would I prefer video on my iPad to my TV?

I wish instead they would have added the ability to watch things off your DVR, rather than stream things for only some channels. I guess it’s a start though.

Breaking Bad As A Sitcom

Awesome video where someone splices some clips from Breaking Bad to make it seem like an ABC comedy.

L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition Coming Soon

Ludwig Kietzmann of Joystiq talks about L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition:

The bonus cases stacked atop your desk/disc include “The Nicholson Electroplating,” “The Consul’s Car,” “Reefer Madness,” “The Naked City” and “A Slip of the Tongue.” They cover the arson, vice and traffic beats, and are offered alongside The Badge Pursuit Challenge and all unlockable outfits and weapons.

For those of you, like me, who haven’t bought LA Noire yet, this might not be a bad deal. You can get all the bonus content included for less than the cost of the original game. Of course if you don’t think you will be up for playing all the extra missions you can saw $22 by just buying the regular version.

Texas Rangers Have Never Won a World Series

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com on the futility of the Texas Rangers:

Only one other franchise in any major North American professional sport — the Minnesota Vikings — has been in existence as long as this franchise without winning at least one championship? (The Vikings, coincidentally enough, have also been around for 51 years — but are not one win away.)

Few talk about how the Texas Rangers haven’t won a World Series. I am rooting for them just for this reason alone. How could you not be?

Top QB Prospect Gunner Kiel Re-opens Recruitment

Brian Bennett of ESPN.com on heralded college football recruit QB Gunner Kiel:

Top quarterback recruit Gunner Kiel, who stunned a lot of people by committing to his home-state Hoosiers in July, is wavering on his commitment and plans to visit other schools, according to reports.

I posted the link to Kiel’s commitment over the summer, and was thoroughly stunned at the time Kiel committed to the Hoosiers. In retrospect it’s likely his early commitment was a product of his brother (who is one of the Hoosiers’ current QBs), the hype around new coach Kevin Wilson and possibly a desire to cut out distractions as his senior year started.

Now that is a free agent, the sky is the limit. As a Michigan fan, I can hope that the overachieving that has happened in Ann Arbor will cause Kiel to check out Michigan again. I bet he ends up in the SEC though.

Video of New DirecTV Guide and Menus

There is a new video out showcasing the new DirecTV guide interface. It looks nice, but the features advertised (faster navigation, easier to understand menus) have to be used before I believe the claims. Updating this is fine with me since it hasn’t change at all in the more than 1.5 years I have had DirecTV, and I know it’s bee much longer than that.

The Impact of Moving The Astros To The American League

U-God of South Side Sox talks about the possibility of the Houston Astros moving to the AL West:

So we will now have nice, pretty divisions with five teams each. Hooray! Except that the math makes no sense. You can’t have an odd number of teams in each league without one team having the day off every day or instituting season long interleague play. Are the higher-ups willing to do that? Is a world where we play every team in baseball in the same season on the horizon?

I’ll be honest, I totally didn’t even put two and two together regarding this. This is a really good point and will obviously have to be addressed. Unless they are planning to shorten the season I don’t think it will work out if one team is off all the time.
