Will Denard Get Overthrown As Michigan QB?

Brian of mgoblog on 2012 Denard Robinson:

Robinson panicked and reverted against the swarming VT defense; before that he’d put together a solid second half as he began to understand the offense and maybe possibly got healthy. With another year in the system he should improve on his throwing numbers.

I don’t care how idiotic people think I am, but I still think Denard will lose the starting job at some point, and will not have the most snaps of Michigan QBs next season. I know the counterarguments usually involve Denard being injured a bunch in 2011 as well as a new offense, but neither of those makes up for some horrible decision making. Denard throws off his back foot a lot, and tends to chuck the ball up instead of taking off running.

After two full seasons as a starter, if he hasn’t fixed this, I don’t see how it happens between now and September. The schedule is tougher and jump ball magnet Junior Hemingway is gone. Devin Gardner didn’t looked good in very limited action, but they did tend to put him in on a few obvious passing downs, which indicates they must have faith in him as a thrower.

Gardner is probably much closer to the prototypical QB for Al Borges system, so I continue to go with my crackpot theory that Denard will lose the job.

Goodfellas TV Series Lands at AMC

Liz Lettieri retweeted the link to this Slashfilm article:

As we’ve reported on the potential for a Goodfellas show, we’ve seen quite a few different responses to the idea. Now we know that the show has landed with a development deal at AMC, home of Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.

I want to be excited about this, but TV show adaptations of movies are very hit or miss. But with AMC, there is all kinds of potential.

SSD Prices Continue To Fall

Mikael Ricknäs of Macworld:

The price for SSDs (solid state drives) that are going into PCs are expected to fall below $1 per gigabyte during the second half of 2012, further boosting adoption, market research company IDC said on Monday.

If that’s true, this is really exciting news. I am sure I have said this before, but at this point, moving from a “traditional” hard drive to a solid state drive (SSD) is about the biggest day-to-day performance improvement you can make to your computer. Both my MacBook Air and MacBook Pro have solid state storage, and I think it would be hard to go back.

Give Your BerserkHippo.com Feedback

(EDIT: you have to click through the post to see the contact form)

Now that the first year of this site is in the books, I figured it was a good time to re-evaluate things. So I am hoping to get some feedback from my readers as far as what works, what doesn’t and what’s missing.

First, let me get a few frequently asked questions out of the way.

Why is there no place to comment on posts?

As is becoming a trend on most blogs, I opted to not to enable comments on this site. There are many reasons for this, but not having to police spam and other nonsense is a big one.

If you are looking for ways to provide feedback on a post there are many options. Use the contact form (at the bottom of this page), @reply me on Twitter (@BerserkHippo), send an e-mail (comments@berserkhippo.com) or post a reply in the form of a post on your own blog.

Why don’t you add the time/date to the posts?

I have heard this from multiple people. Message received. It’s coming.

Feedback Topics

I am looking to get feedback on several areas of the site, but anything is fair game. Here are a list of topics/questions I would love to hear from you on. Again, using the contact form below, sending me an email or anything else you can think of.

  1. Overall, are posts too frequent, not frequent enough or just right?
  2. What is your take on link posts? Do you like them? Would you like to see any changes in relation to link posts?
  3. As far as topics go, are there topics that seem uninteresting? What topics should we cover more? Less?
  4. Are there any design changes that you would like to see, perhaps to make the site more usable?

Any other suggestions you have would be very much appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Mad Men Premiere Date Is Set

The March 25th return of Mad Men is not likely news to fans at this point, but damn, I am excited. I can’t believe it’s been over 500 days. I guess I didn’t realize that it will be about 1.5 years in between seasons. After consuming Breaking Bad in 2011, I have a feeling I have forgotten how much I love Mad Men. I probably will have to revisit the previous four seasons before then.

Still Too Many Android Devices

John Gruber:

What proof is there that a multitude of models is more profitable? There seems to be plenty of proof — in the form of Apple’s financial results — that the opposite is true. With fewer models, combined with huge volume and a marketing strategy wherein Apple keeps selling and producing years-old models at lower price points, Apple achieves an economy of scale that none of its competitors can match.

The “Android model” is definitely “the more, the merrier”. I wonder whether this concept is hurting them by driving sales to Apple because anyone who wants an iPhone, has one or will get one when they can, and I don’t think there are a lot of people who are just giving Android a go before switching to Apple. I suspect most people with Android devices consciously don’t want an iPhone.

I do think this could start hurting Android come the fall, when Microsoft is going to launch Windows Phone Whatever, which thus far is getting some hype. Chris made a prediction on the podcast that Android would start it’s slow death this year. I think if the OS upgrades continue to be unavailable to many users, and they just keep churning out these phones 4 at time, trouble is brewing. I think the Android phone makers need to get out of this trap of too many devices before it’s too late.

Finding The Sweet Spot For App Pricing

Gina Tripani of Smarterware:

A couple of people have asked why my (simple, small) app costs $2, instead of $1 or free. The answer is pretty simple. I’m charging at all because I can, and I’m charging $2 instead of $1 because for the customer, the difference between those two prices is tiny enough to justify doubling revenue.

Interesting theory, but I guess everyone is different. I will buy pretty much any app I am remotely interested in for $0.99. For $1.99, I have to have more than a remote interest, and confidence that it’s worthwhile, most likely based on word of mouth. Anything more than that and I have to be seriously convinced I want it.

Episode #34: iOS Gaming, Amazon Kindle Fire and Microsoft Kinect

Berserk Hippo and Chris are joined by their Game-A-Thon companion Dave to discuss so nerdy topics. They start with iOS gaming, including how mobile games compare to console games. They also pick some of their favorite games and discuss experiences with them. Then they discuss the Kindle Fire, which Chris received for Christmas. How does it stack up to the iPad? Then we quickly talk about the Microsoft Kinect for Xbox. Is it just a gimmick? Where does it fit in the future of gaming?
